Draw This Again: Rose Dryad by OllyChimera Draw This Again: Rose Dryad by OllyChimera
I've been meaning to redo this piece, and dA's current contest provided the motivation to finally do it. I spent a long time on the the new piece, much longer than the original, I'm pretty sure.

This is my entry for the "Draw This Again" contest.

Original is located in my scraps here: [link]

very nice work, I always find these interesting because even when a redux is much better, there's also always something charming about the original which isn't carried over.

I like the current work very much and without seeing the original would not have had anything negative to say about it. overall it is a much more skillfully done and complete work of art.

the original version almost looks like the sort of think someone might draw for a tatoo. on that one I like how her body is integrated into the leaves and stem more completely. on the new one I love the realism, the broken glass, everything that gives it a story and therefor life, and the swish of her hair and all that. it has more life and emotion to it. I like that the rose has three different colors of flowers in different stages of bloom

Thank you very much :)

That is true, in the original I had intended for the lady to be hidden within the roses more so, so as not to notice her right away. It was also meant as a t-shirt design for my mom, so you're close with the tattoo observation :)

In this new version, I wanted to bring more attention to her figure. It was also a good excuse to work on hair. With the three different roses, I wanted to emphasize new growth and a touch more fantasy.

Thank you again, it's always nice to hear from you :D

Very good! I love the concept and the re-work is very nice. All the detail work (subject and background/foreground) really makes it glow as a finished piece. You can actually see the results of the dryad's influence.

The original is a very nice piece, and the remake is simply incredible! WOW, great job! Amazing work on the details on flowers, glass, tiles, hair - and beautiful body shading.
That, and the concept is really fascinating and original too. Wow.
